The new Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder delivers 770 hp, beginning with a 4.6-liter V8 making 570 hp, and topped off with two electric motors that add 200 hp more. One electric motor adds pull to the front wheels, while the other pushes the rears. To keep it locked to the road, a seven-speed PDK is mounted upside down to lower the center of gravity.

The 918 hits your neighborhood Porsche dealership (assuming you live in the right Porsche neighborhood, that is) on Sept. 18, 2013 with a starting price tag of $845,000,

California DMV takes orders for retro legacy license plates

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is now taking orders for license plates that replicate those issued from the 1950s to the 1970s. The program was created to give classic car collectors a way to get plates that match the era of their vehicles. (We know more than a few collectors who are simply painting their modern plates in retro colors to achieve the same effect.)

The California Department of Motor Vehicles tells us they need at least 7,500 orders by Jan. 1, 2015, to print their “legacy license plates,” which can be ordered in a choice of retro blue, black or yellow backgrounds. Owners must pay $50 and fill out a form, which is available on the DMV website. But don’t wait! If the state does not meet the order threshold, it will refund the application fees. The form is available here: http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg17L.pdf

Roger Norman has purchased SCORE from 73-year-old Sal Fish #SCORE #HDRA

Veteran off-road racer Roger Norman has purchased SCORE from 73-year-old Sal Fish. Sal sold his SCORE International desert racing organization and the SCORE Desert Racing Series to Norman effective immediately. Fish, the CEO/President of Los Angeles-based SCORE International has set the pace for the sport of desert racing since shortly after it’s forming by the late Mickey Thompson in 1973.

The purchase of SCORE comes less than two years after Norman restarted the High Desert Racing Association. “We will be keeping the series and the controlling companies separate, although there will be a combined world championship based on points acquired in the two series,” said Norman.
